There are good books and there are bad books. I read a few bad ones but much much more good ones. This is the list of the english books I read. The much longer list of all books is here, on the german version of my virtual home.

A Ambrose, David "
Coincidence
"
-
It all starts with a photograph of George Daly, that shows him at age ten with two grown ups. George can not remember the people shown, neither that
the photo was ever shot. After he finds this foto in the belongings if his dead father several coincidences happen. The number of these synchronities
seems to increase and George discovers a pattern. But this is just the beginning of a story which changes the life of George, his wife and several other
people.
The book is nice, but nothing more. The brilliant idea of a hidden meaning behind coincidences is spoilt. There could have been a story much more dense and
the philosphical ideas appear just as flashlights. After two thirds the story seem to get more and more weird, but luckily Ambrose takes a final turn to
lead the reader into a saver harbour.

City of Glass: Quinn gets a phone call in the middle of the night. Obviously a wrong number as someone is looking for the
private detektiv Paul Auster (!). When the same person calls again in two other nights, Quinn decides to be this Paul Auster.
Ghosts:A private detective get the job to tail a man. He is watching him from a flat on the other side of his room for several weeks.
The locked Room: Fanshawe was all his life a very special person, now he has dissapeared. His wife and mother of his baby calls his former friend. Fanshaw has left
all his writing that have never been published. Fanshawe was obviously a very good writer, but is he dead or did he just leave his family?
I read just the first 50 pages of "Ghosts" as it was boring. The other two stories are good, "The locked Room" even a bit above "good". All three
stories have figures that reappear in other stories (see here for a map).

Jack Ryan, an american history professor and former US Marine, is for a short trip with his family in London. Just by chance he is
at the scene of a terrorist act against some very important people. Without much thinking Ryan acts and is able to baffle the attack and
even capture one of the terrorist. Ryan himself gets wounded, but he is the man of day and furthermore a national hero. But to the
terrorist, an ultra extreme wing of the IRA, Jack Ryan and his family are now more than just american tourist.
The plot of the story is okay, despite there are not too many unexpected twists. The main character, his family and his friends are well
described and there is a lot of room for further stories about Jack Ryan. As far as I know, this is the second novell of quite a series.
Overall the story is quite american, especially concerning patriotism. Well, in the end it's just for the thrill.
